This pack includes both the Tara Skirt & Pinafore and the historical pattern that inspired it: the Seatoun Skirt pattern.
The Seatoun Skirt is a classic A-line skirt based on original garments and patterns from between 1915-1918. Fun details and thoughtful construction means it works equally well for historical costuming, historybounding, and modern wear.
The Tara takes the classic A-line shape and fun pockets of its historical inspiration and gives them an easy-to-wear 21st century update, with shorter lengths, a comfortable elasticised back waistband, modern sewing techniques and notions, and a pinafore option.
While the patterns look alike, their different constructions mean they have totally different pattern pieces, right down to the pocket pieces!
Buy both patterns and you'll learn two completely different construction techniques: one for a historical (but totally suitable for modern wear!) skirt with a boned internal waistband, and one for a modern skirt or pinafore with a cleverly finished elastic back waistband.
Having both patterns allows you to mix the different pocket constructions between the views, add the pinafore front to the historical skirt, and play with the grainline options of the Tara View B in the Seatoun.
Seatoun Recommended Fabrics:
Midweight fabrics in cotton, linen, silk and wool including: drill, corduroy, poplin, silk noil, taffeta, corded silks, cotton and wool gabardine, and serge. This pattern works best in stable fabrics with a bit of body.
The interior belt should be made from a midweight, very tightly woven, cotton fabric, such as poplin or shirting.
Tara Recommended Fabrics:
Midweight wovens in cotton, linen, silk, wool, rayon and synthetics. Suggested fabrics are: chambray; lightweight corduroy; craft cottons; cotton sateen; very lightweight denims, suiting weight wools; rayon/viscose twills; lightweight wool crepe, silk noil.
Too heavy fabrics will result in too much bulk in the elasticized waist. Too light fabrics will not be able to support the pockets with any weight in them.
All the fabric requirements are for non-directional fabrics. Extra fabric will be needed for directional prints, print matching, and very wide stripes. Less fabric will be needed for a shorter skirt/pinafore.
